Happy Foodie – happy coincidence!

Hey guys,

Hope you’re all well. It’s an exceptionally chilly evening and I’m curled up with a brandy whilst I type this post. Of course there’s every possibility that I may stray off topic, as I’m also rather hungry, so no doubt I’ll be talking more about food. Food glorious food.

hungry

Do you find that when hungry, you can’t really think about anything else? I tend to stop functioning and wind up pulling (unintentionally, might I add) my best crazed zombie face. You know, the level of gurning depends on the degree of hunger. And I currently feel like there are rats gnawing at my stomach, so you can only imagine how untoward my face must look. Which leads me to wonder why I’m sitting here typing away instead of stuffing my face. It’s because I’m determined to make this weekend a constructive one. It’s been pretty good so far. I’ve completed a whole load of paperwork, ironing and other nondescript yet imperative chores that if not addressed now, will mount up to become unfathomable tasks that require Herculean strength to even contemplate. I’ve learnt from the past, you see. During a house-move, I discovered five years’ worth of bank statements that I always intended to discard, but just never got around to. Sifting through paperwork that seemed taller than Mount Everest seemed too much at times, and that’s when I promised myself that I’d never put off imperative tasks. Ever.

So, here I am. And now I can’t get Nigella’s buttermilk pancakes out of my head. I could seriously murder a whole wodge of them. (Is that even a word? See, the odd combination of hunger and brandy does funny things to one’s vocabulary). I think it’s because I was watching one of Nigella’s episodes earlier. Not her actually having an episode (she’s always so collected), but her making those darn, moreish pancakes.

Madhur Jaffrey Curry EasyJust a really quick one before I bid you adieu; I’m in the middle of fleshing out a really cool cookery feature. It all started out with a perfectly random email from The Happy Foodie, in which was featured a curry dish by the queen of curries, Madhur Jaffrey. And wanting to expand my appallingly inadequate curry repertoire and seize the day, I invested in her Curry Easy cookbook which I’ll be working my way through over the upcoming days. Now, I’m a firm believer in serendipity. And that email from The Happy Foodie was just that. I had been toying with the idea of taking some form of cookery class to sign up next year, but because everything is online nowadays (including cookery shows on YouTube), I thought I’d start off with the most user-friendly curry cookbook I could find. I would just like to say thank you to The Happy Foodie for that email. Because I’ve already cooked some pretty awesome dishes, which I’ll be blogging about imminently. Madhur’s recipes seem simple enough to follow and are altogether scrummy. I’ve already made the Chettinad Chicken; watch this space to see how I got on.

And I really must stop talking about food and actually go and make some. Have a cracking weekend guys and see you soon.
