I grew up watching James Bond as he flitted across the globe to all these exotic climes and I especially loved his Cuban jaunts. You too can escape into Havana’s heyday, as Nottingham’s newest bar brings a taste of Cuban life to the city with the opening of Revolución de Cuba.

There’s already a Revolución de Cuba in Derby, but you can never have too much of a good thing, right?

The brand new Latin American rum bar and cantina on Market Street, is set to open its doors in a few weeks after a £1.7million transformation, to create a fresh and exciting new destination. Revolucion de Cuba brings the cool vibe of Cuba and the infamous Havana nights to the city. The relaxed daytime food and drink experience turns into a Caribbean fiesta as the sun goes down to unleash live music, dancing and celebration.

What really got my inner foodie doing a merry jaunt, was the news that the head chefs have spent weeks in the backstreet kitchens of the most extraordinary restaurants in Cuba to find the secrets behind recipes that go back generations and to translate these into their own dishes.

“This is going to be the biggest festive fiesta to hit Nottingham,” said Robert Litchfield general manager at Revolución de Cuba Nottingham. “It may be cold and wintery outside but we are turning up the heat Havana style. December is a perfect time for us to open our doors and encourage people to enjoy a Cuban Christmas and that means cocktails, a fusion of food flavours and lots of live music and dancing.”

The new venue will create 100 local jobs, each new member of staff receiving extensive training to ensure they deliver the true de Cuba experience. Clinton Ghent, area and brand manager of Revolución says; “Delivering the best customer experience is our sole mission and we do anything we can to achieve this. Whether you come in for a coffee, a bite to eat or an evening out with friends, our team is there to entertain and serve our guests to the highest level possible.”

It’s good to hear a restaurant / bar taking coffee seriously (I must pop down to get some steaming hot coffee down me.)

Clinton added: “Nottingham has some fantastic bars and restaurants and we are bringing something a little bit different to the city. Our location on Market Street is a great spot with the theatre, cinema and shops all very close by. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a cup of Cuban coffee, some fantastic food or get your dancing shoes on and join our fiesta.”

The unique Revolución de Cuba design is based on a rustic chic inspired theme with spinning ceiling fans, vintage furniture and live music stage to create an original setting for customers to drink, dance and dine. The cantina will provide an authentic range of freshly prepared and cooked Latin-inspired foods during the day and the evening. From light lunchtime Tapas to the famous hearty Ropa Vieja, a classic Cuban meat stew of shredded lamb in a rich tomato and pepper sauce, there is something for everyone. The extensive menu offers a variety of Burritos and Hamburguesas and customers will fall in love with de Cuba’s guacamole – a specialty with its own secret ingredients freshly made on site.

The Nottingham Revolución de Cuba will complement its food offering with a carefully crafted drinks menu specialising in rum. An enviable selection of premium cocktails and assortment of rums add to the soul of the Cuban party that is heightened by live music during the day and evening. Salsa lessons and networking events will also be on the menu at Revolución de Cuba with more surprises expected to be revealed shortly.
