Derby is one very exciting place to be right now. Carnero Lounge is the latest eatery to throw open its pretty doors to the public. Nestled on Peter Street slap bang in Derby city centre, the concept bar and restaurant is already wowing diners and drinkers looking for a place with that something special.

The launch party for Carnero Lounge was a well attended event with local businesses and press who were invited to try out the menu.

It is a comprehensive menu including brunch, burgers and salads; in short, there is something there for everyone. On the evening, we tasted a selection of tasty tapas. Patatas Bravas (garlic roasted mayo) was filling, with punchy garlic and creamy mayo being the perfect partner to zingy tomato sauce with a hint of paprika on the swallow. Chorizo (garlic, red onion, red wine) was magnificent in all its meaty glory; the sausages were perfectly seasoned with a hint of herb and went really well with the depth of the red wine.

Roasted Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash (goats cheese, chipotle chilli jam) was gorgeous; the squash had a beautiful bite to it, whilst the cheese and chilli was an unctuous, spicy combination that hit all the right spots. Honey-glazed Shredded Five Spice Pork was tasty (the aniseed was a little overpowering for me) but my dining partner loved it. The Ciabatta bread was a welcome addition and perfect for mopping up stunning sauces from the Chorizo dish.

Carnero Lounge hails from the Loungers stable which is also part of the Cosy Club family. I’ll be honest – I was suprised by the location. The décor is grand but cosy luxe and altogether smashing. I will most certainly be back, to try the cocktails and check out the menu too.
