Lilu has set the benchmark for high quality Indian food and service in Leicester for four years now. The bijoux Highcross Street restaurants’ latest seasonal menu launch signifies a new direction for the much-loved Indian fine dining team.
Lilu is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Pratik and Bhavini Master. They are also the masterminds behind the Wigston Fields News & Deli – a brand new concept in corner shop which has been giving retail space to over 35 local food and drink producers for the last 2 months.
“Supporting Leicester’s incredible food producers at the deli has been so well received that I had to find a way of incorporating their products into the restaurant menu” said Pratik. “It has been amazing to give so many people their first break by providing an affordable way for producers to get their products out there, without the risk. Now we’re going to be showcasing what you can do with their incredible food, by making it central to the Lilu menu.”
Lilu’s unique approach has always had the best quality ingredients at its heart. They are shaped and inspired by Leicester, as well as the rich diversity of Indian regional cooking.
In the summer 2019 menu, which will be launched next week (14/05/19), every main course will feature at least one element that showcases a local producer. This includes vegan smoked cheese from the Feast and the Furious and beautiful jams from the Saffron Acres Project. A future collaboration with the delicate French patisserie of Nathalie Salles of Chouxtique is also under discussion.
“Some people have assumed that Lilu is closed” laughs Pratik. “They can’t imagine that Bhavini and I are running a shop in the day, and a restaurant at night, but we absolutely love it. Keeping the shop open is something we do to honour the years my dad spent building the business up, while Lilu is our own first business. We’ve met so many amazing and passionate foodies – and we’re meeting new customers every day who share our dedication to the incredible food Leicestershire has to offer.”
